A Genetic Algorithm Approach to the Design of Ultra-thin Electromagnetic Bandgap Absorbers
نویسنده
چکیده
A design methodology is presented for utilizing electromagnetic bandgap metamaterials, also known as artificial magnetic conductors, to realize ultra-thin absorbers. One approach that has recently been proposed is to place a resistive sheet in close proximity to a frequency-selective surface acting as an artificial magnetic conductor. However, we demonstrate in this paper that incorporating the loss directly into the frequency selective-surface can eliminate the additional resistive sheet, thereby further reducing the overall thickness of the absorber. The geometrical structure and corresponding resistance of this lossy frequency-selective surface is optimized by using a genetic algorithm to achieve the thinnest possible absorber. Two examples of genetically engineered electromagnetic bandgap metamaterial absorbers are presented and discussed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Design of a Photonic Bandgap Fiber with Optimized Parameters to Achieve Ultra-Low Confinement Loss
In this paper, a novel design of all-solid photonic bandgap fiber with ultra-low confinement loss is proposed. The confinement loss is reduced remarkably by managing the number of rods rings, up-doping level, pitch value, and rods diameters. Moreover, the designed PCF shows ultra-flattened dispersion in L- and U-band. Furthermore, a new design, based on introducing of an extra ring of air h...

متن کاملSelective Pyroelectric Detection of Millimetre Waves Using Ultra-Thin Metasurface Absorbers.
Sensing infrared radiation is done inexpensively with pyroelectric detectors that generate a temporary voltage when they are heated by the incident infrared radiation. Unfortunately the performance of these detectors deteriorates for longer wavelengths, leaving the detection of, for instance, millimetre-wave radiation to expensive approaches. We propose here a simple and effective method to enh...

Linear flux switching motors with simple passive segmented secondary, referred as Segmented Secondary Linear Flux Switching Motors (SSLFSMs), have low cost secondary and therefore are applicable to transportation systems like Maglev. However, it is shown that the SSLFSMs suffer from high thrust ripples. In this paper, minimizing SSLFSM thrust ripples besides maximizing its developed thrust are ...

The optimal design of planar multilayered electromagnetic wave absorbers is presented. The optimization process is based on an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO). Assumed that the number of layers is given, in order to obtain an ideal absorber which is thin and has a low reflection coefficient within a wide band of frequencies, the thickness of each layer needs to be optimized as well t...
